Cherry Chia Smoothie

An easy way to boost intake of antioxidants is the Cherry Chia Smoothie recipe. Mixed berries including cherries, blueberries and raspberries are really good sources of antioxidants.

Cherries are an excellent source of antioxidants!

Why are antioxidants important? Free radicals are unpaired electrons in the body which occur as a natural byproduct of normal cell processes. Unpaired electrons also arise from environmental exposure to toxins such as smoking, alcohol intake, air pollution and use of medications. Unpaired electrons can cause damage to cells and by including antioxidant-rich foods in the diet, the antioxidants provide a pair to the electron, therefore reducing cellular damage.

As part of a healthy diet, it’s really important to consume antioxidant-rich food regularly. The Cherry Chia Smoothie is rich in antioxidants and other good food sources include; strawberries, dark chocolate, broccoli, spinach, kale, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, green tea and many more.
